Youth Sports

The YMCA offers a wide variety opportunities for kids to participate in sports. All YMCA Youth Sports follow the philosophy that every kid deserves the chance to play and have fun! YMCA Youth Sports are designed to teach specific skills of the sport, introduce the idea of teamwork, teaching sportsmanship, demonstrating positive values, getting parents involved and for everyone to experience the joy of playing!

 

Coming up:

Boys Basketball (3rd-6th Grades)

What:  Y- Winners Basketball: The emphasis is on Good Sportsmanship, Everybody plays, Fair play, Basic Rules, Game Play and Skill Development.  Boys Basketball will meet Mondays and Thursdays.  

When: Basketball will begin Monday, January 10th and ends Thursday, February 24th. 
 
Where:  Basketball will be held at the YMCA gym.  Times will be scheduled after the registration deadline.

Fee:  $31.00 members/$46.00 non-members.  
If you cannot afford to pay the fee simply ask about our financial assistance program – PWY.  Financial assistance is available upon completion of required paperwork.

Register:  At the YMCA, 900 East Church Street, Pierre, SD 57501.  Deadline:  Is Monday, January 3rd.  

GIRLS BASKETBALL (3rd-6th GRADES)

Ninja Warrior (3-7)

Ninjas will learn flexibility, strength, tumbling, and obstacle maneuvers. This class is perfect for active boys and girls who are looking for a fun recreational activity and learn real ninja-style movements and techniques.
Ages 3-4: Wednesdays, from 5:00-5:45pm for 6 weeks, November 3rd-December 15th (No class Nov. 24th).
Ages 5-7:  Thursdays, from 5:00-5:45pm for 6 weeks,    November 4th-December 16th (No class Nov. 25th) 

Cost:  $42.00 members / $62.00 non-members.  Cost includes t-shirt and Ninja headband!

We are looking to add a class for 8-12 yr. olds.  If you have a child interested please contact the YMCA and we will add you to the interest list.

 

Mighty Mite Basketball (1st/2nd grades)

Mighty Mites works on the skills needed to play basketball.  It focuses on the fundamentals such as passing, dribbling, shooting, good sportsmanship, game play, etc for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls.  

The cost for the program is $24.00 for YMCA members and $34.00 for anyone that is not a member of the YMCA.  Financial assistance is available upon completion of required paperwork. 

This program will meet at Jefferson School (900 N. Poplar) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. 

Mighty Mites is 4 weeks and will run from Nov. 2nd – Nov. 30th. 

Mighty Mites is limited to the first 36 children signed up for each session. Session 1 = 6:00-6:45pm or Session 2 = 7:00-7:45pm.

 

Mini Mighty Mite Basketball (KINDERGARTEN)      

Fun with basketball and friends.  Mini Mighty Mites is an introduction to the basic skills of basketball.  Children get to keep the basketball the last night of the program. Mini's is for Kindergarten boys and girls.

Mini's will meet at Jefferson School Gym at 900 N. Poplar on Mondays, November 1st – November 22nd - 4 nights from 6:00-6:45pm 

COST:  $24.00 for members/$34.00 for non-members (Includes a new basketball!!) 
(Financial assistance is available upon completion of required paperwork)

YMCA Cheer! (5-12 year olds)

Come learn cheers and chants, motions, jumps, stunts, and basic tumbling.  With this class, your child will increase flexibility, and strength, and improve balance, agility, and technique. Participants practice once weekly and then take their skills to the court or field to cheer at Y Youth Sports games.  For girls and boys ages 5-12.
Classes begin in January.  Join in the spirit!
